Pastor: Pastor B and Mrs Khumalo
Address: 5946 Moleleki Extension 1, Katlehong
The Oasis of Life Family Church in Katlehong was founded by apostle I.N Sithole together with Mr. Nkumane and the late Mrs Nkumane recruited the late Mr and Mrs Sibiya to come and join them from another Church.
When I joined them in praise, there were nine members of the congregation. In the same year a decision was made to move the Church from the Nkumane’s home to Vumbeni Primary School, and we were the given a classroom to use every Sunday.
Douglas, Bishop Mathew and Livion were some of the first members of the branch. At that time, we didn’t have a Pastor helping us in katlehong, so Apostle Sithole and Mrs Sithole who were staying in Vosloorus were running the church from the distance since there were only nine members of the Church. We started to evangelize in and around Katlehong and by the grace of God, the Magashoa family joined us. They were very committed in the congregation. Apostle Sithole started dispatching pastors to help the congregation, the likes of pastor Neo Silbeko, Pastor Malisa and Pastor Mosilakgomo.
The formal opening celebration was held in Tembisa the same year in 1987, that’s where the Church was formally named the Oasis of Life Family Church. Pastor Sibiya From Malelane together with Pastor Ephraim Khumalo who and Pastor Sibiya at Rhema Bible college joined us for the smooth running of the congregation.
In 1989/1990 the church gained more strength and grew in numbers, the Manana Masuku and Phetla families from Phadima section also joined us. As the Church was growing very fast the classroom in Vumbeni Primary became too small to accommodate the members of the congregation, we then decided to move to Katlehong high school.
There was a time when Pastor Sibiya graduated from Rhema and went back to Malelane to run an Oasis Branch Pastor Khumalo, who was not a member of the Church temporarily took good care of the congregation and after pastor Khumalo graduated he also went back to his own congregation in Swaziland.
After that season, Katlehong branch was the second biggest after Daveyton, different Pastors started joining us again. Even preaching elders from the Apostle I.N Sithole would come and preach at our local branch and the branch was doing so well.
In 1996 the classroom at Katlehong Secondary School became too small for our growing congregation and then we moved to Mpontsheng secondary school under the leadership of Pastor Nzo. A month after moving to Mpontsheng secondary school, the congregation divided, and Pastor Nzo took along with him some members of the congregation. That was a difficult year for Katlehong branch, but with the grace of God, the Church recovered, and things went back to normal.
In 2001 Pastor Madonsela joined us to assist, after serving us as a pastor for a year, he left us to start his own congregation. That didn’t stop us to start looking for our permanent location. We also stared to hold men services every Thursday. Pastor Motlafi was the one who helped to hold men service every Thursday. Pastor Motlafi was the one who helped us with these services driving from Daveyton every Thursday. These services opened room for many men in the community to join the Church.
The famous Mrs. Phefile also used to visist us several times. She even ended up informing Pastor Sithole that she will serve both branches (Katlehong and Daveyton). The likes of Pastor Thomas Hadebe joined us and we were visited by Tshepiso Motaung, who was part of the Book of Acts music group. The group blessed us mighty with their music.
The woman of the congregation held prayer sessions every Thursday during the day. We started praying for the growth of the congregation and because of those prayers Mrs Nkali, Jemina Mokoena and others from the Faith Mission Church joined our Church.
Then in 2007 we left the school and went to our new site in Moleleki section, Pastor Andries Mokgope was ordained to run the branch of Katlehong. In 2011 Pastor Khumalo joined us and was ordained to Pastor our branch to date. He arrived at Katlehong being sent by Apostle I.N Sithole to assist Elder Mokgope with Church Administration and any other thing that would enable him to excel in Church leadership. He was then Pastor ordained by Apostle I.N Sithole to Pastor the Church in February 2011.
Since the Church never looked back but opted to shut the door of painful experience and focus on loving & caring for Gods people and restoration of the Church at Katlehong. Throughout the 7 years of Pastoring the Church we have our ups and downs, people coming in and others leaving for various reasons. The Church tent tearing apart, and we rose above all those challenges and later in 2016 we saw our rainbow, our hope when we started building our mini auditorium after 30 years, which we hope we will complete soon and we are grateful that in our 30th year celebration we have something to celebrate God about!
